Network Management

With "network management" we refer to the systems used to manage networks in real-time, in other words "operational network management systems". COMSOF's consultants have been involved in multiple projects related to the design and implementation of such systems.

During one of these projects, a prototype of a Service Enabling Platform was build to demonstrate the concept. The platform was designed to allow remote configuration of end-user equipment. This is an emerging area of interest given the multitude of services and terminals invading the user-environment while the user wants to enable these services or configure this equipment as easy as possible (plug&play, zero-touch activation). Because sending an installer to every home each time a new service is for example to be enabled is way to costly, there is only one alternative: design a management platform that can remotely detect, configure and update the end-user equipment. Our prototype demonstrated the possibilities of such a platform for a remote surveillance service including the remote configuration of cameras and the user’s router without any intervention from the user.

Other projects in this area dealt with the core network management systems, where COMSOF's consultants helped in the development of these overlay platforms (e.g. for an Signalling System 7 platform).
